Bus Connectivity

Build Smarter, Safer Buses with TE Connectivity

Your vision + Our engineering = Solutions for every connectivity challenge in your bus designs.

Your transit vehicles face unprecedented challenges. Urban transit manufacturers are racing against zero-emission mandates while meeting $100B market demands by 2033. Cities like Los Angeles require 100% clean fleets by 2030*, while European e-bus adoption accounts already for 30%** of new sales.

Connectivity is Key!

Every route tests your design limits. Your city buses and intercity coaches endure 580A e-axle loads, 1MW depot charging, and gigabit passenger systems. Daily urban routes and long-haul operations create vibration, thermal cycling, and maintenance challenges at every connection point.

That’s Where TE Comes In

Our connector portfolio delivers field-proven performance across the various applications of your bus.

Battery & Charging

Your charging infrastructure demands mission-critical reliability. Depot fast-charging can deliver between 500 kW to 1MW, requiring inlets rated from 1,000 to 1,250 VDC and from 500 to 1500 Amps, with durability for several thousand of mating cycles. Battery packs need high voltage connections up to 1,000V with HVIL (High Voltage Interlock Loop) circuits to prevent disconnections. As fleets adopt depot, on-route, and pantograph charging, OEMs need modular inlet solutions that meet varying regional standards without requiring a redesign.

Chassis & Cabin

Bus chassis and cabin systems demand robust connectivity solutions capable of withstanding diverse and challenging operating conditions. Full-length harnesses are exposed to mechanical stresses such as road debris impacts, high-pressure washdowns, and frame flexing during vehicle operation. Roof-mounted HVAC units on articulated buses must endure combined thermal and vibrational loads. Meanwhile, cabin connectivity requires compact, high-density interfaces that meet IP67/IP6K9K protection standards, while also supporting streamlined pre-assembly and easy field servicing.

Engine, E-Motor & Transmission

Powertrains operate under severe mechanical and thermal stress. E-axles in your transit buses handle 1,000V/580A in space-constrained installations while meeting HVIL compliance. 150°C ambient temperatures, oil contamination, and continuous vibration demand IP6K9K-rated connectors with secure mechanical locking and ergonomic high-voltage mating for safe technician access.

Power Distribution & Control Systems

Efficient power distribution is critical to modern bus design. Compact PDUs must manage high-voltage feeds between inverters and onboard chargers in space-limited bus designs. 1,000V finger-safe connectors with integrated Battery Disconnect Switch capability enable rapid maintenance shutdowns while meeting UL and IEC safety standards for transit vehicle certification.

Smart & Connected Bus

Modern and connected buses rely on high-speed, reliable connectivity to power passenger services, fleet management, and advanced safety systems. From Wi-Fi and infotainment to ADAS, V2X, and real-time diagnostics, these applications demand robust, low-latency networks — with connectors that withstand EMI, vibration, and harsh conditions to guarantee uninterrupted data flow.

Accessories

Auxiliary systems in smart buses face harsh conditions. From underbody pumps and compressors exposed to oil and debris, to roof-mounted HVAC units enduring weather extremes and frame flexing. Durable, sealed, IP-rated connectors with high-temperature tolerance enable these comfort systems to operate reliably in all service environments.

Tooling

From prototyping to high-volume production, our application tooling solutions cover every stage of bus industry wire harness assembly. Hand crimping tools, benchtop terminators, applicators, and insertion and extraction tools work together to deliver reliable, consistent crimp connections
