Improving Grid Reliability

Monitoring your grid is key to keeping the power network up and running. Our grid monitoring solutions enable utilities and industrial facilities to pinpoint faults and weak connections in the grid, providing an effective tool for power monitoring and asset management. They make the otherwise costly, labor-intensive upgrades on the entire grid unnecessary and consequently improve reliability, as measured by the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI).

Your Challenge: Fault Location

Locating a fault on hundreds of miles of power lines is a challenge for any distribution network owner. Disruptions to the grid caused by aging infrastructure, extreme weather events, wildlife interaction, demand growth for energy, or fallen conductors can cause power interruptions with high fault currents. These unplanned outages must be resolved promptly to minimize the impact on consumers – but locating a fault often costs time and money.

1.5h

The average duration of an interruption per customer excluding major event

$100k

The average cost of an outage for a utility per hour

Fault Indicators for Overhead Lines

Through our recent acquisition of Kries, an established pioneer in smart grid systems, we now offer fault current indicators that can be easily installed at strategic points throughout your grid. In the event of a short circuit, the IKI Overhead (IKI-OH) fault indicator sends an optical LED signal so grid operators can easily locate, repair, and restore power to the grid. We also provide a combination of communicating versions, the IKI-OH-Butler and IKI-OH-Radio, which allow remote reporting to a distribution control center. Our solutions help you to efficiently reduce unplanned power interruptions, thus improving grid reliability and resiliency.

Elevate grid intelligence with our Kries IKI-OH's real-time fault communication, empowering swift restoration. Its robust design, suited for diverse line conditions and weather, ensures reliability in maintaining optimal network health and safety.

Fault Indicators for Switchgears

Our Kries solutions help you maximize switchgear performance, improve grid transparency, and reduce grid downtime. Fault current indicators in switchgear offer real-time monitoring of electrical current flow, swiftly detecting and locating faults. They are crucial for maintaining operational safety and reliability. By identifying abnormalities like short circuits or ground faults, these indicators enable swift action to isolate faults, mitigating potential damage and downtime.

Voltage Detection & Partial Discharge

Our Kries voltage detection systems provide increased safety for personnel during on-site operations. In today’s complex energy distribution networks, particularly in medium and high voltage sectors, voltage detection is crucial for ensuring grid availability. Our Kries solutions offer secure voltage monitoring and detection, essential for enhancing system reliability. Modern voltage detection systems, easily installed using capacitive or ohmic sensors in any ring main unit, enable safe monitoring of voltage presence or absence. Additionally, ensuring the safety of staff working in hazardous conditions is paramount.

Smart Cable Accessories

Our Raychem separable connectors and our plug-in terminations are easy to install, compact, and adaptable to most cable types to reduce your installation time and costs. They are also compatible with our Kries monitoring devices.
