New Product: Hartman KD400 Series Contactors

Hartman KD400 Series

The lightweight, high-efficiency 400 A power switching solution for harsh 28 VDC aerospace and defense applications

September 20, 2016

TE Connectivity Ltd. (TE) (NYSE: TEL), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, announces their new HARTMAN KD400 series contactor that has been developed and qualified as one of the aerospace industry’s smallest and lightest two-pole, 400A 28 VDC contactor. The new power switching solution is designed for 28 VDC power systems in commercial and military aircraft as well as ground vehicle applications.

“Now more than ever, size and weight are crucial,” said Karl Kitts, director of development engineering for high-performance relays, Global Aerospace, Defense & Marine, TE Connectivity. “We’re pushing the technology to provide a very small and light two-pole contactor, and the KD400 series contactor fills the void in the aerospace market for small, lightweight, high-performance two-pole (1 NO, 1 NC) 400A 28 VDC contactors.”

With two separate sets of main contacts, the KD400 series contactor offers the flexibility to be configured to control two separate circuits. With an external jumper, the contactor can be configured as a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) main contact to switch power between two different loads or provide two alternate sources to one load.

Each contact set is fully rated for 400A continuously and 4000A rupture. The unit features electronic economizing and is available with up to 3 SPDT auxiliary contact sets rated up to 5 Ampere each.

Additionally, the KD400 series contactor will be available in bus bar mounting configuration or chassis mounting configuration. The series has also been designed to meet the requirements of MIL-PRF-6106.
