A through-hole resistor is a fixed resistor that has long, pliable leads that can be stuck into a breadboard, or hand- or wave-soldered into a printed circuit board (PCB). Also known as a leaded resistor, a through-hole resistor is used to reduce the flow of electrical current within a circuit. A through-hole resistor comes in three variations: axial, which has leads at either end; radial, which has leads pointing downward; and pluggable, which has terminals plugged into the PCB. A carbon film axial resistor is the most common through-hole resistor.
While some through-hole resistors are more useful in breadboarding, prototyping, or other applications that avoid soldering, many through-hole resistors are automatically inserted into PCBs. The components are supplied on bandolier tape and the equipment cuts and forms the leads before inserting them. The whole board is then sent through a wave solder machine to solder the leads in place.
HPCR Series Axial Leaded Non-Inductive Bulk Ceramic Resistors provide performance where high peak power or high-energy pulses must be handled in a small size. The advantage of bulk construction is that it produces an inherently non-inductive resistor.
Also, allowing energy and power to be uniformly distributed through the entire ceramic resistor body, there is no film or wire to fail. As alternatives to hard-to-find carbon composition resistors, ceramic composition resistors can be used as drop-in replacements for 2-watt sizes."
The SQ series resistors are wound or deposited on a fine non-alkali ceramic core then embodied in a ceramic case and sealed with an inorganic silica filler. This design provides a resistor with high insulation resistance, low surface temperature, excellent T.C.R., and entirely fireproof construction. These resistors are ideally suited to areas where low cost and efficient thermal performance are essential design criteria. Metal film cores adjusted by laser spiral are used where the resistor value is above that suited to the wire. Similar performance is obtained although short-time overload is slightly derated
