FOR LIFETIME HIGH-PERFORMANCE EV CHARGING
TENDUR
TE Connectivity (TE) offers an ultra anti-abrasion high voltage contact plating for automotive HV applications.
MAINTAINING HIGH-POWER CHARGING PERFORMANCE
Safety, convenience and the desire for ubiquitous connectivity are driving an ever-increasing number of data dependent cloud/sensor-based applications within vehicles. However, some consumers, despite their environmental concerns, are still reluctant to fully embrace electro-mobility technology with charging time and the availability of charging points still a concern for many potential electric vehicle (EV) drivers.
Charging Performance
The Role of Connectivity
Connectivity technology can play a vital role in delivering the safe and reliable high-power (10 minute / 300 km) charging that would help allay consumer concerns. This starts at the charging inlet. High-power charging (HPC) will involve continuous DC charging power at currents in excess of 500 amps. This high continuous current causes excessive heat due to the inherent electric resistance of the components that must be managed in order to minimize impact on the electrical conductivity performance.

TENDUR is TE Connectivity(TE)'s new surface plating developed to provide superior abrasion resistance and deliver continuous high-performance charging throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.

TENDUR contact plating comprises particles of graphite embedded in a silver coating. Together, they combine the electrical conductivity performance of silver with the self-lubricating advantages of graphite. The inclusion of graphite serves as a lubricant which minimizes abrasion on any part of the contact zone during mating, to negligible levels. In addition, graphite is conductive, so TENDUR contact plating retains all the electrical performance properties of alternative hard-silver elements (e.g. silver-copper, silver palladium, silver antimony).

TESTED TO WITHSTAND 50,000 MATING CYCLES

Lifetime Charging Performance
Traditionally, plating technologies for charging inlets are rated to withstand up to 10,000 mating cycles. However, TENDUR has been tested to withstand 50,000 mating cycles without any contact zone abrasion, thereby providing electrical stability.

Applying of TENDUR surface plating to charging inlet contacts confirms that abrasion will not be a factor leading to current de-rating. This will help maintain reliable high power charging performance for the lifetime of the vehicle, performance levels that the next generation of drivers will come to expect.
