What is a current industry challenge that TE engineers are working on?
Reduction of unplanned outages, lost minutes and improvements in reliability are key drivers behind TE Connectivity (TE)’s effort in the Wildlife and Asset Protection field. Working closely with our customers, our engineering team designs customized solutions utilizing existing and sometimes customized product components to protect critical assets from the influence of animal and avian interference. TE’s Raychem product portfolio is capable of solving all animal and bird related problems and our Raychem material science technology ensures that our solutions will last for up to 40 years for applications in aggressive environmental conditions.
Describe one of your most interesting projects
There are two perspectives in our industry, protecting the wildlife and protecting the assets, i.e. keeping the lights on! At TE we take pride in the fact that we can achieve both goals, saving many endangered species from the deadly interaction with HV power lines. Our products save the lives of eagles, swans, storks and other migratory birds every year. At the same time, our partner customers see an immediate outcome, delivering a staggering 90% reduction in bird/animal-related interruptions after installation.
What inspires you? How do you approach tough problems?
I am proud to work for the company that pioneered the material science behind TE's Raychem heatshrink technology product portfolio. This brand is synonymous with reliability and quality and continues to be the “go to” product in tough environments across the globe.
I also enjoy problem solving and am inspired by collaborative work. To deliver the most successful outcomes, TE engineers and our customers to work together to find and define the root cause of their avian and animal issues. This is why our engineers spend time in the field with maintenance and operations engineers, often as a joint problem solving and development team.
