Overview

Our Raychem HVS-T/HVSR-T Heat Shrink Trifurcating Transition Splices help reduce the complexity of splicing one 3/C PILC cable to three 1/C polymeric cables. By converting the Paper-Insulated Lead-Covered cable (PILC) to a polymeric equivalent, the splices eliminate compound filling and difficult lead wiping which lets you get on and off the job site quickly.

Heat-shrink components help to eliminate lead sleeve failures by replacing lead sleeves and wipes that can crack due to corrosion or cable flexing. Our Raychem HVS-T/HVSR-T series splices provide solderless ground braid connection for PILC cable.

They are tested to the electrical and load cycling requirements of IEEE 404 one 3/C (VCLC) cable to three 1/C poly cable.

The HVSR kits are for use when the PILC/VCLC cable has a much smaller conductor size than the poly cable.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Are TE's Raychem Heat Shrink Trifurcating Transition Splices part of the installation training schedule from TE?

Answer: No, since the application is very specific the installation training for these splices isn't included in our training program. However, you can ask for specialized support and training for this specific range. Learn more on TE.com/trainingcenter.

Question: Can TE's Raychem HVS-T/HVSR-T splices be installed in direct buried, manholes and in cable trays?

Answer: Yes, our transition splice kits can be installed in different environments, due to their versatile and compact design.

Question: Are the HVST Kits compatible with compression and shear bolt connectors?

Answer: Yes, they are compatible with both compression or shear bolt connectors, you just need to follow the proper installation instructions.

Question: How do Raychem Heat Shrink Transition Splices seal the oil in PILC cables?

Answer: Unlike other oil stops, our system combines with heat-shrinkable, high-temperature oil barrier tubing and oil blocking stress relief material (SRM) to avoid splice failures due to oil leakage.

Question: Can TE's Raychem Heat Shrink Transition Splices be installed with a tape shield or wire shield?

Answer: Yes, our transition splices can be installed with any of those cable types, you just need to follow proper installation instructions.
