HAMPTON, Va., January 25, 2016 – TE Connectivity Ltd. (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensor solutions, now offers a series of low cost, compact pipe-mount temperature sensors that reliably measure the harsh, varying environments of HVACR systems.
The new IH-492 Series, to be showcased at the AHR Expo from January 25-27, 2016 in Orlando, features a glass-encapsulated NTC thermistor potted in a fast response copper housing for exceptionally stable and accurate measurement in high moisture and freeze/thaw applications.
The rugged sensors integrate several useful features including a 36-inch, AWG#24 PVC-insulated wire that provides signal integrity. A radius-shaped housing minimizes external environmental effects and maximizes contact against the pipe.
A proprietary molding process produces an extremely dense NTC ceramic that provides exceptional and stable measurement and has passed severe environmental testing to confirm the sensors withstand some of the harshest real-world applications.
Manufactured with a high thermal conductivity copper, the IH-492 Series delivers accurate measurement across a wide temperature range of minus 40 degree Celsius to 105 degrees Celsius. The copper construction also helps eliminate galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals for enhanced long term system performance.
A thermally-conductive epoxy protects the sensing element, while enabling a fast response to temperature changes. The glass coating on the sensors further enhances ruggedness and reliability.
Suited for use in refrigeration and A/C systems needing a small-profile, rugged sensor, the IH-492 Series is easily integrated into a number of original equipment manufacturers (OEM) applications. These include inlet and outlet refrigerant temperature, suction line monitoring, defrost termination and electronic expansion valve temperature monitoring.
The sensor assembly is available as standalone or with a custom-designed, copper-clad steel clip that facilitates easy installation onto the copper refrigerant tubing. Clip sizes include 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch, 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch. Standard resistance is 10 kOhm at 25 degrees Celsius with up to plus or minus 1 percent resistance and a Beta value of 3976K (25 degrees Celsius/85 degrees Celsius).
Rigorous testing using a number of test protocols, including liquid-to-liquid as well as low and high temperature storage, confirms the IH-492 Series will operate reliably and accurately.
More information on the IH-492 Series is available in the new TE Connectivity HVACR product guide, developed to assist design and control engineers in transforming concepts into creation by identifying the right sensing solution for each HVACR application.
The comprehensive TE Sensor Solutions for HVACR guide showcases the broad, combined portfolio now offered by TE Connectivity through the acquisition of Measurement Specialties, a global designer and manufacturer or sensors and sensor-based systems.
HVACR products offered by TE Connectivity include industrial grade pressure transducers, board level pressure sensors and media isolated pressure products. The guide covers a wide range of sensing technologies such as temperature, pressure and humidity as well as position, vibration, flow and ultrasonic.
