Utilities need to ensure their overhead transmission and distribution lines can handle rising energy demands due to expanding electrification. The technology they use must perform reliably and be fast to install during repair, expansion, or modernization of the power network. TE Connectivity, a global leader in connectivity and sensors, extends its recent range of AMPACT BAT Bolt Actuated Tap overhead transmission and distribution connectors with a new smaller size. With this range extension, utilities can benefit from a broader application range served by fewer parts – streamlining the logistics as well as easing installation.

“Since 2022, utility customers around the world have enjoyed the installation ease and robust performance that our AMPACT BAT product portfolio provides. Our connector range has design flexibility, and this smaller size is engineered to allow more customers to benefit from this innovation. Installers appreciate the fact that it installs faster, without special tooling. In the end – our innovations can benefit all the businesses and communities that rely on continuous power,” says TE Product Manager Justin Opel.

Powder-free power meets application flexibility

The bolt-actuated design is engineered as an alternative to powder-actuated elements in installation – making it easier for installers to set up and initiate. AMPACT BAT connectors are engineered for seamless installation without the need for specialized tools, using gloves or standard hot sticks. They rely on TE's Wedge Pressure Technology, which helps maximize contact between connectors and conductors, and has a track record of 60 years of performance in the field.

The AMPACT BAT delivers all the technical performance of the first generation of AMPACT connectors without the concern of additional regional storage requirements for powder-actuated tools. They fit a wide range of conductor sizes, adding value for utilities by streamlining stock management. All taps can be used to connect multiple conductor combinations, maximizing efficiency and reducing the number of connectors in stock by up to 50%.

First-class testing, training, and support

All AMPACT BAT connectors are ANSI C119.4 Class AA-tested to the highest electrical performance standards in the market, ensuring long-lasting grid performance. TE provides users with detailed installation instructions, datasheets, test reports, customer drawings, as well as customized installer-focused training events. A YouTube demonstration can be seen here.
