During his seven years at TE, Robbie Xu has held positions in product design & development, sales, marketing, and customer service for Data and Devices in Asia. With this background, he has successfully led his team in the collaborative development of next generation systems within data communication and data center fields. He is dedicated to designing and developing innovative TE products that address customers’ needs by pushing his team to serve each of their individual customers more effectively and efficiently.

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I enjoy the constant opportunities to connect TE’s new products and solutions with cutting-edge technology trends in communication equipment and consumer electronics devices. Meanwhile, linking leading technology and TE expertise together updates my knowledge and experience to better serve our customers.

From product design to sales and service, how do you switch to different roles smoothly and quickly?

Identifying and meeting our customers’ needs are always important in any TE role. I have always kept this in mind and prioritized this no matter what role is required of me. Each of my roles build on one another even if they seem separate - the knowledge that I have accumulated from all my roles allows me to quickly adapt to new environments, while delivering better performance.

How does your technical background contribute to your role as a Field Application Engineer (FAE)?

It is essential and very helpful to use common technical language among customer engineers, FAE and TE engineers – it creates an efficient communication rhythm and builds mutual trust with key stakeholders of FAE. In addition, my technical background from various areas helps me to better understand and meet customers’ needs.

What is the biggest challenge you have encountered in TE?

In our conversations with some customers, I found that they might not be able to realize all the benefits that our products and technology can offer. By following the market and industry trends, we combine the advantages and features of our solutions with customers’ needs and expectations. Therefore, we need to win customers’ full trust through continuous conversations with our years of experience in engineering design and proven solutions.

What do you think is the key to the success of a project?

It is equally important to have both a cost-performance balanced product and a team that focuses on addressing customers’ needs and delivering desirable results. With the increasing demand of connectivity, customers require connections in limited space that also meet the budget. Our team continuously strives to deliver proper solutions to meet customers’ delivery deadlines and expectations. Internally, we leverage resources from across our teams to collaborate and deliver project success as defined by our customers.

How do you achieve “Extraordinary Customer Experiences” (ECE) at work?

ECE is a top priority. Focusing on meeting our customers’ needs from support to delivery is an important foundation for success. My target is to practice ECE in my daily interaction with customers and exceed their expectations by fulfilling our promises. Pushing my FAE team to serve each of their individual customers more effectively and efficiently has become my key driver to achieve ECE at work.

Do you have a favorite TE product?

I can’t say that I have a favorite, but I will say I’m proud of our broad portfolio of connectivity solutions. With the range of products and TE expertise, the FAE team is able to offer many reliable, agile and space-saving solutions to our customers, and become a key supplier across several areas of a design.
