TOTAL SOLUTION

As the pioneers of the heat shrink, TE has been able to develop world-class cold applied products to suit applications where torches cannot are not preferred. Having been built on a history of authenticated performance and reliability, TE connectivity goes beyond the heat shrink technology to provide a complete assortment of cold shrink solutions for use with virtually every cable types and sizes. TE`s line of the medium voltage cold shrink cable accessories provides a "complete solution". This includes disconnectable splices, in-line splices, transition and trifurcating splices built for simplicity, performance and reliability.

TE's Raychem Cold Shrink Technology

Cold shrinking has various advantages.

Generally, the silicone-rubber cold shrink offers high UV-resistance out of all the other kinds of cold or heat-applied tubings. This technology can, therefore, be used effectively in the outdoor, exposed environments, for example in trackside terminations to the rail power lines. The EPDM rubber is used in the cold-shrink tubing is corrosion resistant . This makes it suitable for direct burial applications like cable-to-cable jointing.

Cold-shrink tubing also exhibits “active memory” seal characteristics. This means that the tubing always tries to return to its initial size and be able to maintain its adhesive capability around cables during expansion and contraction under temperature fluctuations and large load-swings.

Another advantage is that there is minimal risk to the installer since there is no direct heat or flame needed to install the components. This makes it even safer in environments where combustible gases are present. There is no need for hot-work permits while the reliability and quality of the installation are assured due to the fewer critical installation techniques.

Cold Shrink Joints CSJA

An “all-in-one” solution, this in-line offering is built for 1 core shielded power cables (15 - 35 kV) and is designed to splice tape shield, wire shield, LC shield, UniShield, JCN and flat strap shielded cables.

Key Features:

  • Pre-expanded EPDM rejacketing sleeve and an integrated neutral sock
  • Pre-expanded, single-piece silicone rubber joint body with high mechanical expansion capability allows a wide application range
  • Ergonomically-designed spiral holdout provides a smooth installation with low release forces
  • Compact size: total length of the splice body on the holdout is 14 to 19 inches

Cold Applied Transition Joint (CATJ)

The CATJ is designed for 1 core cables and delivers a reliable, robust and easy-to-install cold applied transition jointing system.

Key Features:

  • Easy-to-install lead seal and connector seal
  • All-in-one design featuring a pre-expanded silicone joint body with integrated neutral socket and rejacketing
  • Cold applied oil barrier tube requires no special restricting tapes
  • Range-taking oil stop shear bolt connectors supplied within the kit

Cold Shrinkable Disconnectable Joints (CSJD)

Designed for 1 core shielded power cable (15 – 28 kV) applications, the CSJD connects tape shield, LC shield, JCN and flat-strap shielded cable to standard ‘I’, ‘Y’ and ‘H’ insulated cable buses.

Key Features:

  • A pre-expanded EPDM rejacketing sleeve and an integrated neutral sock, along with easy installation that requires minimal steps to completion
  • The joint body, jacket seal and copper neutral sock are integrated into a single unit
  • An ergonomically-designed spiral holdout provides a smooth installation with low release forces
  • Meets IEEE 404 (2012) requirements for 15/28 kV

Cold Applied Transition Joint for 3/C PILC Cables (CATJ-T)

Like the CATJ, the CATJ-T offers a reliable, robust and easy-to-install cold applied transition jointing system for use with 3/C PILC to 1/C solid dielectric cables.

Key Features:

  • Easy-to-install lead seal and connector seal
  • Pre-expanded silicone joint bodies with integrated stress control
  • Cold applied oil barrier tube requires no special restricting tapes
  • Range-taking oil stop shear bolt connectors supplied within the kit
  • Unique PILC filling and phase sealing materials

Cold Shrink Termination (CST)

One-Piece Cold Applied Terminations for Applications Up to 35 kV / 42 kV

The Total Solution CST offered by TE is a cold shrink; a one-piece termination that has an integrated stress control and a void-filling mastic. There is also a long-neck version (CST-L) which accommodates the use of a shear bolt connector without additional taping. The products accessories consist of ASBT shearbolt terminal connectors. Other accessories include rejacketing sleeves, breakout boots and brackets.
Generally, the terminations offer multiple uses and there is a huge range of applications that can be fully covered with only a minimal number of products. The installation work for TE`s CST is fast because it needs only a few work steps.
