TE Takes CFP Connectors to 100 Gbps Per Port

New CFP2 and CFP4 Connectors Offer High Speed, Durability and Performance.

April 27, 2017

TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, today announced its new CFP2 and CFP4 pluggable I/O connectors, two interconnects that transfer data 2.8 times faster than current CFP products, achieving 28 Gbps per lane for ≥100 Gbps Ethernet (and other protocols) in a high-density, 0.6mm contact pitch. TE’s CFP2 and CFP4 connectors provide industry-leading signal integrity and feature a ruggedized cage construction for a more robust solution, helping to ensure reliable connections.

Original equipment manufacturers and contract manufacturers who design or build optical transports, servers, switches, routers and storage equipment are looking for ways to drive more bandwidth through their systems. With an extensive CFP2 and CFP4 portfolio, TE offers many flexible design options to meet these customers’ needs. TE’s new CFP2 and CFP4 connectors are ideal for many applications, including carrier networks and data centers, multi-building data center connectivity, metro area networks, and mid-reach to long-reach, high-capacity links. TE offers an extensive portfolio of CFP2 and CFP4 connectors and cages that adhere to the standard footprint defined by the CFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) group to ensure standardized design and on-demand product availability.

“Communications equipment manufacturers are always trying to transfer more data in less space,” said Lucas Benson, product manager, TE’s Data and Devices business unit. “TE’s CFP2 and CFP4 connectors are rugged, 2.8 times faster than current CFP solutions, and offer a 0.6mm contact pitch to deliver higher aggregate bandwidth per line card. They achieve this performance with outstanding signal integrity.”
