Mark is Senior Principal Development Engineer, Advanced Systems Architecture in the Aerospace, Defense and Marine (AD&M) business unit.  With a B.S. General Engineering degree from University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and M.S. and Ph.D, Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mark brings over 40 years of diverse R&D and product development experience in machine dynamics, electronic materials, high speed connectors, fiber optic transceivers, media conversion, multiplexing, rugged fiber optics in markets ranging from datacom, telecom, outdoor broadcast, oil and gas, military, and commercial aviation. His main area of expertise are rugged fiber optics applications, optoelectronic transceivers and media conversion, wavelength and time domain multiplexing.

What changes do you expect to see in your industry over the next 5 years?

Increasing use of fiberoptics, both passive and active components, increased use of parallel and multiplexed systems, with speeds moving from predominately 10G today to 28G and, then  56G, leveraging datacom devlopments, but repackaged to survive our AD&M market needs.

How do you measure success?

For me, it's working closely with the customer's technical team to identify a system solution that leverages the combined talents and strengths of both orgnaizations.

Who are your customers and what are their biggest challenges?

For AD&M our customer tend to be large Original Equipment Manufactures (OEMs) who are looking for ways to reduce weight and power consumpion, while increasing data-rates & connectivity density

Where would you most like to visit?

Italy, because of my mother's family heritage and New Zealand/Australia, locations that intrigue me.

Photography, Re-learning Piano, Recording Audiobooks
